Three biomedical engineering students from Wichita State University have been working tediously on an app that could help prevent postpartum deaths. The three young women - Shauntel Peterson, Gina LeBar, and Nicole Zimmerman - are taking place in the national Innovate Her challenge.

The app will be of aid to nurses working in the hectic labor and delivery unit, as it will assist in categorizing patient's risk levels for hemorrhaging so that the nurse can have time to plan and mitigate certain risk factors.

Finalists for the Innovate Her challenge will be announced July 31st, with the winner receiving $40,000.
